Twain played the "bait and switch" with prospective lecture attendees by adding such things as the following to posters (these are paraphrases, not what they actually said):
A splendid orchestra is in town, but has not been engaged
A den of ferocious wild beastswill be on exhibitsomewhere - not here
You can expect to see ~
In fact, feel free to expect anything you like
Has anybody got a reference/link to an image where I can see an example of exactly what these "come-ons" were?
