Max McCoy presented a paper on Paine's past and apparent bigamy in a paper
presented in November 2015 at the South Atlantic Modern Language
Association (SAMLA). McCoy has been engaged in researching this aspect of
Paine's life for a number of years and in this paper revealed how he
discovered the news about Paine's first wife, divorce, and how it inspired
him to write his novel _Jesse_ (1999) which features Mark Twain and the
outlaw Jesse James. McCoy's paper in pdf format presented to SAMLA is
online. A short URL is:

If that link does not work, try a google search for

"Albert Bigelow Paine" + Minnie

The title of McCoy's paper is "The Lie is Eternal"
