I am trying to help a tailor duplicate one of Mark Twain's white suits. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum (thanks to Clara) has one of Twain's white jackets, but not the pants that go with it. So Henry Sweets has kindly agreed to check the jacket to answer one question the tailor has: Is there a center vent in the back of the jacket? But other questions require an examination of the pants. Does a museum or collector have one of Twain's full white suits? If not, can anyone help me answer the following three questions: 1. The photos I've seen don't make clear whether Twain's white pants had cuffs. Is anyone certain? 2. Do the pants have pleats in front--none, single, or double? 3. Did the pants have one (which side?) or two back pockets, and, if so, did they have tabs or buttons? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Best, Loren Ghiglione

Subject: colorizing photos from 19C: including MT

This project represents a very good intention, I think; and I think some of
these photos are quite lovely. But I wonder what other scholars think of
this technique?? Mostly soldiers but also including our paragon, MT...
