Thank you, Dr. Bush.  I did not know about MT's contributions to
missionairies or other charities.  Focus is normally placed on his cynicism.

It seems obvious from some writings that he was a compassionate man but held
Christians accountable (The War Prayer).  Knowing that he also did his part
in giving to others provides further evidence that he had a Christ-like
concern for others as well.
