Dear Forum: Though Mr. Kipen didn't respond to my email of mid-February, I believe he needs to rethink the 1866 speculation; so too does Philip Fanning. The 1866 speculation is untenable. October-November 1864. See The Singular Mark Twain, pp. 126-127.Best, Fred Kaplan
