Gregg--Here's fn 26 from the opening chapter of my work in progress,
Twain's Brand_ (note the British spelling in the caption): AMERICAN
HUMOUR, illus. Frederick Waddy, _Once a Week_ n.s. 10 (14 December
1872): 21. Walter Francis Frear, Mark Twain and Hawaii (Chicago:
Lakeside Press, 1947), 176-77, 188-89, notes that the illustration,
used to promote Twain's only lecture at the Brooklyn Academy of Music,
has been erroneously dated 1877 (Modern Eloquence, 1900), 1866-67 (New York
Independent, May 5, 1910), and 1869 (Albert Bigelow Paine, Mark Twain: A
Biography, 1912).
