Dear Forum members:
I have read several biographies of Twain, but I don't honestly remember if
anyone mentioned why in the first place he chose to use a pen name. I am
cognizant of the fact that many authors of the 19th century wrote under
pseudonyms, but I don't know if there was a particular reason for Twain's
doing so.
