I've missed Clark since I left the University of Oregon more than 20 years
ago. He was the first scholar to treat me like a peer when I was still a
master's student. His physical languor and mellifluous drawl deflected
casual observers from his wild and fierce intelligence.

A generation is passing - indeed, has mostly passed. I will drink to them
all tonight, those gone and those still with us.
