I am posting the following on behalf of Charles Boewe, who has asked me to
share this sad news with members of the Mark Twain Forum. K.B.

It is my sad duty to record the death of Twain scholar Everett
Emerson Tuesday, July 9th, in Lenox, Massachusetts. Everett also
will be remembered for his scholarship in Colonial American
Literature. He and his wife Katherine were working on an edition of
Crevecoeur when he was overtaken by death. It is expected that a
memorial service will be held in the autumn in Chapel Hill, where
Everett was an emeritus professor of the University of North
Carolina.
