Hello,

I'm trying to track down discussions of Jim's motives for keeping from
Huck the identity of the dead man in the floating house in chapter 9 of
HF. Does anyone happen to know who first suggested that rather than
wholesale concern for Huck, the reason Jim withholds the fact that the
body is Pap's might be because he understands Huck would be less likely
to flee with him (and provide a measure of protection) if Huck knew his
father were dead? In addition to the first, what's the best analysis of
this topic?

Thanks,
Joe Csicsila
