This is just a reminder that the Toronto Area Archivists Group is hosting an
"Appraisal of Non-textual Records Workshop" on Friday February 4th.

If you are interested in attending this workshop, but haven't yet sent your
registration form in, please contact Kim Arnold at (416) 441-1111 by 4:30 on
Friday January 28th, to let her know you will be attending. Completed
registration forms and cheques made payable to TAAG may be brought to the
workshop, but we need to know ahead of time who will be attending.

See below for more details about the workshop.

Date: Friday, February 4th, 2000

Time: 9:00am to 5:00pm

Place: Manulife Financial Archives, 200 Bloor St. East, Toronto (near the
Bloor/Yonge or Sherbourne subway stations)

Cost: $50 for TAAG members; $70 for non-members

Instructors:
Jim Burant, National Archives of Canada - Photographic Records
Louis Cardinal, National Archives of Canada - Architectural Plans
Mark Epp, Archives of Ontario - Sound Recordings and Moving Images
Kate O'Rourke, Archives of Ontario - Documentary Art

This workshop will provide an overview of the theoretical and practical
considerations involved in appraising sound recordings, video and film,
photographs, architectural plans and documentary art. Some of the topics to
be explored include: defining appraisal; the special characteristics of
non-textual records; the impact of physical and technical constraints on the
appraisal process; stages of appraisal; and the similarities and differences
in appraising textual and non-textual records. (Please note that this
workshop will not cover monetary appraisal.)

For more information, please contact Kim Arnold, TAAG President, at the
above number or by email at [log in to unmask]
