On tonight's All Things Considered on NPR, there was a brief commentary
on the Hartford Ballet Company's new version of the Nutcracker Suite" dubbed
"The
American Nutcracker."  Didn't catch all the names, but apparently the
director
wanted to Americanize the ballet and some one said he should put Mark Twain
in it.
He couldn't figure out, I gather, how to make Twain a character but was
inspired
instead to set the ballet in the Wild West.

Don't know if there is more to the story in the way of Twain, but someone up
in
Harford might be able to help, espcially since the piece was written up in
Ye
Olde Hartford Current.
